So looking at this

every day, or perhaps this

doesn't phase you, but sitting next to this

on an airplane or a park bench makes you UNCOMFORTABLE? Well I'm sorry that push up bra titties in your face on nubile young women are just fine, but putting breasts to their intended use is somehow an unsettling act of in-your-face activism that is unpalatable in public. We really, really need to get over this as a society.

I'm going to go and have this baby now, and breastfeed her wherever I damn well please. Get over it. It's the law.

Well said. Amen.

for many, including me, walking in on a woman breastfeeding is sometimes awkward for a man, especially when that woman is a close friend. no moral objection exists, and no thoughts of activism are provoked. what makes it awkward is that often, we men don't realize right away what is going on. something seems out of place, and by the time we realize what is going on, several seconds have gone by seemingly staring at a booby, when in fact, we are more often staring at a content baby. embarresment sets in, especially when a close friend is involved, and the first reaction is the get the hell out of there, prompted by the feeling that you did something wrong, when in fact, you were simply dense.

the point is, awkwardness is not always because someone disapproves of breast feeding in public.

Well, b, I wasn't aiming my remarks at people like you or the situations you describe. I can completely understand someone feeling a little uncomfortable, but for people to imply that women simply shouldn't breastfeed in public because it makes *them* personally uncomfortable is ridiculous. In recent weeks, such comments have been explicitly been made in several places in the media. If "it takes a village," then the damn village better get with the program.
