Simply Terrifying (A Television Program Review)

img_Char_Roo-On.jpg

Because I am now a mother, I occasionaly find myself sampling children's programming on television, seeing as I will be subjected to at least a little bit of this fluff sooner or later. I was familiar with the Teletubbies, and, truth be told, I think they're kinda cute. However, some of the shows being beamed in from other countries are very, very, scary. I've heard of The Wiggles. I know some people don't like them, but they look pretty harmless. The one that is currently haunting my dreams though, is The Doodlebops. Courtesy of our brothers and sisters "up north," this show features human beings in bizarre outfits reminiscent of those really creepy battery commercials out a while back. The nonsensical plot had something to do with the brothers and sister Doodlebop skipping around town while their talking... um.. robot thing was repaired by some sort of combination bus driver/Maytag repairman. I hope to never have to watch this show again.

OK, I just heard an explosive poopie sound from the other room. Presumably it was flying from the butt of my cheery one-month-old, so I shall close. See what I've become???

Oh yeah, I watched The Doodlebops one day, just when I was flipping around and wanted to find something that maybe Lucas would like. [He's getting more and more into TV these days, which is kind of scary in a way! LOL!]. They are sometimes WAYYYY too cheery in my opinion! :D

Umm... we all kind of like the Doodlebops over here. ::blush and hide::

See, now, I knew there was something terribly wrong at your house... ;-)

I like to think of it as a 20-minute rave for the preschool set!

Looks like some producers found out that as long as you have colors, goofy costumes and dancing music, all the rest absolutely doesn't matter.

Why bother with writing sketches?
"Knock-knock. who's there? door. door who? door shut, that's why I knocked."
Kids WILL find this funny.

Why bother with playing music onstage?
Colored lights and funny instruments are all you need to entertain kids.

All in all, I still can't shake the feeling that those Doodlebops are evil for some reason. The drummer doesn't look clean somehow.

I actually kinda like the Wiggles, despite the Star Trek Original Series costumes, the Monkees-wannabe cornballness, and the Beatles ripoff stuff (An octopus, with a garden under the sea??? Come ON people... Where's Ringo and his lawyers?)

Clearly you all have not seen Boobah yet. If the Doodlebops kind of throw you for a loop, well... just wait and see.
