Decapitating Shadows

So the Day's Not a Total Waste...

This morning's interview was the biggest non-event I have ever bought new shoes for. The manager, a really nice-seeming guy, sat me down and said "well, you're very over qualified for this position, and it only pays $9.35 an hour, which I'm guessing isn't enough." Basically, they were looking for a just-out-of-school grunt who could work 40-50 hour weeks for nothing. But, I was told my resume would be passed on to Marketing, where there may be positions opening up and where they thought I'd be much happier. I guess they just wanted to have me in to make sure I didn't have three heads or something. The thing is, I don't want to work in marketing, I want to work in design. It was great to have such positive feedback on my portfolio, but I'm not sure how I'm going to find a position at the right end of the experience spectrum for me.

The short interview allowed me some time to follow up on a few other things though, including a resume follow-up with a cool-seeming marketing and design company in Chesterton. I met the creative director and was promised an informational interview in a couple of weeks when she gets back from vacation. And, I stopped at the Red Cup, where the owner told me she has decided to keep my paintings up for another month. And I got home to find a freelance request in my email inbox. I'm not discouraged yet, and feel good just to be getting out there and pounding the pavement a bit.

Another feel-good item: Jason Gaylor/Design Fruit has up some new photoshop brushes, including a Valentine's Day set and a really wonderful Japanese foliage set. You can download photoshop/png files for free, or buy the complete vector art for $10, which really is a deal for such gorgeous design.
