What a Weekend
September 21, 2008
Well, I was so busy being wined and dined*, procuring balloon hats

and watching sheep be herded and sheared

That I spent a scant half hour on creating this weekend. This is the beginnings of a new mixed media on paper piece, no clever title yet, 22 x 30"

The good news is that while it felt like a chore to get started, I really am back to the point where I get lost in it, and can work nonstop for a couple of hours without batting an eyelash.
*Our super-fancy top-secret date was Friday night. Dinner at Gamba in Merrillville (pheasant sausage with white beans and greens appetizer, a nice pinot noir, and linguine alla Sicilianna for me, braised rabbit for Adam. Yum), and a fantastic production of The Producers at the Theatre at the Center at South Shore Arts. You haven't lived until you've seen dancing, gay Nazis (or would it be gay, dancing Nazis?).

Ah, Fall
September 18, 2008
Fall is in the air. The nights are cool, the sunlight looks different, the air smells different. I love this time of year. It really, really makes me miss upstate New York though. But I always find that in the fall, I am at peace in a way that I'm not during the rest of the year. Even when I'm busy and stressed out, there is just something about the fall that makes me feel happy and calm and content. I just want to curl up in a chair and read and enjoy the quiet. Or cook something delicious. Or just... be.
Right now I have a lot going on at my day job, three art shows I'm juggling drop off, pick up, and opening receptions for, and there's all the usual day-to-day family and house stuff. But still, I can honestly say I'm very very glad it's September.

Some Progress
September 13, 2008
Sorry it's been so long since my last entry. We had lots of out-of-town stuff going on. Last night we attended the opening of Destruct | Construct at Union Street Gallery in Chicago Heights. It's a good show; I think the work is a bit inconsistent, but it all fits the theme excellently and there are some really stunning pieces. I had a nice chat with the gallery director and Eve Jensen, one of the artists in residence there. Her recent work is all about stones, memory/history, and landscape in a way I really related to.
I was rejected from this year's South Shore Arts Salon Show, which is a bummer because I had so much fun with that one last year. But, it's not like I haven't got anything else going on this fall. I shall soldier on. I'm almost done with the piece I'm working on as a wedding gift for friends M&L. I feel safe posting here because I'm pretty sure they don't read my blog and I've already given them a sketch... apologies for the crappy photo. I'll get a good one before I send it off. The working title is "'Til Death" but I think that's too... I don't know, something. Suggestions welcome.
